October Meeting
Our 10th Birthday!
What do you do when you have a birthday? You have a party to celebrate – so that was what we did! Invitations were sent both near and far and lots of women came in response to the invite. After all, coming into double digits with 10 years of Hamilton Doves existence is very special and so was our celebratory concert evening.
Preparations were made and the scene was set. We were surprised and delighted as we welcomed our guests - after all it is the people who make the party. After gathering, Wilma our current president began by recalling the founding history featured also in the scrapbooks covering all the years activities and available for perusal later in the evening. Christine our founding president read the founding scripture from her own art work, the painting featured in the focus. ......Also within the sculptured heart focus was the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus given to us by our founding chaplain the late Father Maurice Drumm.
And then the entertainment began. The waiters served glasses of punch for our refreshment as we looked and listened at the line up of local talent. The love of Jesus radiated through these invited artists. The songs chosen by them touched our hearts. How could their choices speak to us so personally! Panis Angelicus, O Holy Night, Amazing Grace, .... With all I am, Galilee Song, Into your hands, .....The talent made us marvel. We heard original compositions and were challenged by such songs as Faith in Action. There was humour as well, as we laughed through Theresa’s rendition of Moses on his motorbike.
After the performance we were led by some of the artists in praise and worship and we all gave thanks to God for his great love for us and for all He has done through the ministry of Hamilton Dove and beyond. We performed to Jesus. It was a mountain top experience from which we did not want to come down. Fellowship continued over supper with hot drinks and a wonderful spread of party food contributed by all.
We thank Christine, Heather, Liz, Frania, Lila, Chrissy, Theresa, Chanda, Dominique, Danielle and Annaleine for sharing their talents with us so willingly and making our 10th birthday very special.
The men folk blessed us with providing technical sound, computer and video expertise, serving us with drinks and freeing us from the kitchen duties on this evening. We do thank them most sincerely.
It was a good birthday party with all the elements of fun, friendship, food, festivity, fostering our Fellowship.
Roll on the next ten years!
